682 (93.2%) of the 732 members who participated in the vote to ratify our second collective agreement voted YES on July 17, 2019. The sustainable services bargaining mandate supports the government`s commitment to improve the services people rely on, make life more affordable, and invest in sustainable economic growth. The mandate is in line with B.C.`s commitment to balanced budgets and sound financial management. Currently, just over 222,000 public sector employees are covered by interim agreements or ratified under the mandate. The collective agreement and any letters of agreement constitute the employment contract between the university and the members of the bargaining unit represented by the association of faculties. The bargaining unit includes all regular members of the faculty of teaching and research; temporary members of the faculty with appointments of more than one year; and professional librarians, both regular and temporary. The Faculty Association is a union certified under the BC Labour Relations Code. As reported on July 22, the University of Victoria and the University of Victoria Faculty Association recently negotiated a collective agreement for the period from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022. The agreement, fully negotiated under the BC government`s sustainable services bargaining mandate, has in the meantime been ratified by both sides and approved by the Public Sector Employers` Council.
